What is an invisible character?
An invisible character is a Unicode character that shows as blank space, or takes up no space at all, but still counts as a real character. Apps that trim or reject normal spaces usually keep it, so you can use it for blank names, empty messages and hidden spacing.
A normal space (U+0020) is often removed from the start and end of text, and a name made only of spaces is treated as empty. Invisible characters such as the Hangul Filler, the Braille Pattern Blank and the Zero Width Space are different code points, so most apps see them as text, even though nothing appears on screen.
People use invisible characters to leave a name or nickname blank in games and chat apps, to send an empty message, to add line breaks or spacing in social media bios, and to keep two words from being split at the end of a line.
The default character on this page is the Hangul Filler (U+3164). It was designed as a placeholder in Korean text, renders as blank space in most fonts, and is accepted by many apps that reject plain spaces.
How to use an invisible character
-
Copy the character
Click Copy small, medium or large, or set a number and copy that many.
-
Paste it
Paste it with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V, or long-press and choose Paste on a phone.
-
Test it
Paste it in the test box. If the grey text disappears, it works. If not, try another character.
Blank space copy and paste
Blank text is text made of invisible characters instead of letters. Copy it from the buttons above, then paste it anywhere you would type: a name field, a chat box, a bio or a document. It looks empty, but the app sees characters, so the field is accepted.
Use Copy small, Copy medium or Copy large for one character of a different width, or the blank text generator to copy up to 10,000 empty characters at once. To check the result, paste it in the test box: if the grey placeholder text disappears, the blank space is there.
Where to use invisible characters
Apps change their rules over time, so a character that works today may be blocked later. If one is removed, try another from the list above.
Paste the Hangul Filler (ㅤ) into the message box to send a blank message, or into your About or name field to make it look empty. WhatsApp does not send a message that is only spaces, but it sends one made of invisible characters.
Use blank characters to add empty lines between paragraphs in your bio or captions, which Instagram otherwise collapses, or to center short lines with spacing.
Discord
Many users set a blank nickname on a server with the Hangul Filler or Braille Pattern Blank. Some servers block blank nicknames with moderation bots, and Discord may change what it allows.
TikTok and YouTube
Invisible characters let you add spacing in bios and descriptions, and line breaks that the editor would otherwise remove. Blank comments are often filtered as spam.
Free Fire, PUBG Mobile and other games
Players use the Hangul Filler (ㅤ) for blank or spaced-out nicknames in games such as Free Fire, PUBG Mobile, Among Us and Steam profiles. Each game filters names differently: if your name is rejected, try the Halfwidth Hangul Filler (U+FFA0) or Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800), and check the game's naming rules.
Fortnite and Roblox
Epic Games display names and Roblox usernames only allow a limited set of characters, so blank names are usually rejected there. Roblox usernames accept only letters, numbers and underscores.
Documents, code and forms
A no-break space keeps two words on the same line, a zero width space marks where a long word may break, and a word joiner prevents a break. Invisible characters are also used to test how websites and apps handle unusual input.
Blank characters and zero-width characters
Blank characters
Characters such as the Hangul Filler, Braille Pattern Blank and the Unicode space characters take up visible width, like a space. They are the best choice for blank names and empty messages, because the field does not look empty to the app.
Zero-width characters
Characters such as the Zero Width Space, Zero Width Joiner and Word Joiner take up no space at all. They control how text is joined or broken: a zero-width space allows a line break inside a long word, while a word joiner prevents one. Some apps remove them, so they are less reliable for blank names.
Why an app might reject it
Some games and platforms filter invisible characters to prevent empty or impersonating usernames. If a character is removed or shown as a box, try another from the list. Fonts that do not include a character may also show it as a box or question mark.
Finding hidden characters in text
Invisible characters can also cause problems: a zero-width space copied from a web page can break a password, a search or a line of code. Paste the text into the checker above to see which invisible characters it contains and remove them.

Frequently asked questions
How do I type an invisible character?
Most keyboards cannot type one directly. The easiest way is to copy it from this page and paste it. On Windows you can also type some characters with Alt codes, such as Alt+255 for a no-break space, but copying works on every device.
Which invisible character works best?
The Hangul Filler (U+3164) works in the most apps, which is why it is the default. If it is blocked, try the Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800), the Halfwidth Hangul Filler (U+FFA0) or the Zero Width Space (U+200B).
Can I use an invisible character as a blank name?
Often, yes. Many games and chat apps accept a name made only of invisible characters. Some platforms block them, so check the platform's rules and try another character if the first one is rejected.
How do I send an empty message?
Copy an invisible character, paste it into the message box and send it. Apps that do not allow empty messages see a character, so the message is sent, but it appears blank.
What is the difference between an invisible character and a space?
Apps often trim normal spaces from the start and end of text, or treat text made only of spaces as empty. Invisible characters are different Unicode characters, so they are usually kept.
How can I remove invisible characters from text?
Paste the text into the checker on this page. It lists every invisible character it finds, and the remove button deletes them so you can copy clean text.
Can I send an empty message on WhatsApp?
Yes. Copy the Hangul Filler (ㅤ) with Copy large, paste it into the WhatsApp message box and send it. The message arrives as a blank bubble. The same works for your WhatsApp name and About text.
How do I type an invisible character on iPhone or Android?
Phone keyboards cannot type one directly. Open this page, tap Copy large, then long-press the text field in your app and tap Paste. To reuse it later, save it as a text replacement shortcut in your keyboard settings.
What is the ㅤ character called?
It is the Hangul Filler, code point U+3164, HTML entity ㅤ. It comes from the Korean alphabet, where it fills an empty position in a syllable, and most fonts draw it as blank space.
Why does the invisible character show as a box?
The font on that device does not include the character, so it shows a box or question mark instead. Try a different character from the list, such as the Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800), which most phones support.
Can I hide my username with blank text?
On many apps you can set a display name made of invisible characters, so it looks blank. Your account still has a unique ID or handle, so you are not anonymous, and some platforms do not allow blank names at all.
Is this invisible character tool free?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up and no limits, and it runs in your browser, so nothing you paste is uploaded.
